ARTICLE: Abraham Lincoln TO Barak Obama

                                 Train Ride Of US Presidency
Abraham Lincoln (1861) to Barack  Obama (2009)

"Behind the cloud the sun is still rising"
                                    -Abraham Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States in November of 1860. Despite receiving serious threats to his life, he addressed several gathering of people all along the rail track and urged them to stand by the Union - "it is your business to rise up and preserve the Union"- he said. He challenged the crowds with a question whether the liberties of this country be preserved to the latest generations? Risking his life, he succeeded in generating popular support for his fight against the separatism and racism. Here he sowed the seeds of the epic struggle that led to civil war ultimately leading to "A birth of Freedom", which defeated the pro- white states.
Now, almost a century-and-half later, President elect Obama chose to retrace the steps of Abraham Lincoln. The first and foremost is the fact that then, the USA faced prospects of a civil war dividing the nationhood into Black & White, while today though the country is held together as a Federation, the role and actions of the US Presidency would determine the timetable for a global war. President Obama today is sitting on a powder keg which may explode if he presses the wrong button..
The second and the most important similarity between the two Presidencies is a confused and directionless mass of citizens longing for a firm hand to guide. Abraham Lincoln through his magical words and firmness of action smoothened the roughened feather and led a people's army to a victory against the separatists. In conclusion, we must remember that though a period of 150 years separate the 16th and 44th President of USA, their journey thus far and beyond has the same degree of uncertainty, risk and challenge.
The 16th President Abraham Lincoln said, "The nation shall have a new birth of freedom.. and that government of the people.. by the people... for the people.. shall not perish from the earth". Obama, the 44th President said, "the world has changed, and we must change with it. But those values upon which our success depends- honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism- these things are old" IF HE CONTINUES ALONG THIS PATH, WE SHALL ALL HAVE A GLOBAL LEADER REACHING OUT TO ALL OF US PAST THE TURBULENT TIMES TO A BRAVE NEW WORLD. AMEN! :)
