How about if old phones would be turned into an intercom for your tree house? Or maybe two cordless phones into a home base walkie talkie?
What Is A Walkie-Talkie?
A walkie-talkie is a two-way radio transciever. It is hand-held and portable and was originally developed for use in the military. It's like a telephone unit with an antenna sticking out of the top. The disadvantage of using a walkie-talkie is that a lot of people can listen to the transmitted voice as opposed to a mobile phone...
How Does It Function?
The sound transmission starts when the push-to-talk switch is presses. A typical walkie-talkie has a built-in speaker which can be heard by the user himself or herself and other people in the immediate vicinity of the user. Hand-held transceivers are used either to communicate between two walkie-talkie, vehicle-mounted stations or base stations. A walkie-talkie is limited to a few watts of power output and a small antenna. The actual size of the unit limits both the battery capacity and antenna size. Its communication range is typically short, not exceeding the line-of-sight distance or within closed buildings or underground.
